FIREZZ KURDISH CONTEMPORARY ART HAS STARTED PUBLISHING

FIREZZ
FIREZZ derives its name from the Kurdish concept of frêz. Meaning “couch grass” (ayrık otu), frêz symbolizes a mode of existence that carves its own path, takes root, and endures even under the most challenging conditions. For FIREZZ, this concept represents independent production, creative resistance, and the transformative power of art.

Firezz Contemporary Art, with its subtitle Kurdish Contemporary Art, is an independent art platform and publishing initiative that aims to make visible the current practices of contemporary art and contemporary Kurdish art. Our magazine seeks to bring together artists, curators, researchers, writers, and audiences within a shared space of thought. While opening up the aesthetic, political, and social dimensions of contemporary art to discussion, it places particular emphasis on rethinking the historical experiences and contemporary practices of Kurdish art, as well as its relationship with the international art scene, within their aesthetic and political contexts.

Beyond merely introducing artworks, Firezz Contemporary Art operates as a platform that supports critical thinking, original artistic production, and interdisciplinary dialogue. The magazine features artist interviews, critical essays, exhibition reviews, theoretical texts, and discussions on contemporary art. Our aim is to bring together the plural voices of contemporary art while creating a lasting archive and a platform for discussion around Kurdish art production in both local and global contexts.
